Koenigsegg Gemera: First Looks at the Production Model

The Gemera is truly an engineering feat accomplished by Koenigsegg. Only a mere 300 units of the Gemera will be built. It is being coined as a “mega grand tourer” and I must say, it is deserving of the title. The Koenigsegg company originally started development of the Gemera with the thought process of making a mid-engine supercar that also would comfortably fit four full size adults.

Koenigsegg accomplished their goals and then some.

Koenigsegg Gemera Performance Specs

The total picture of the Gemera is still a bit shadowy, but after the big reveal on July 10th, it’s a bit clearer. There will be two production models. Both versions will use the “Dark Matter” electric e-motor which alone will produce 800hp. Both models will come with AWD and be capable of full four-wheel torque vectoring, which you’re going to need to put the power down. Koenigsegg did some rather clever engineering to position the LSTT (Light Speed Tourbillon Transmission) in a way to allow for more room for the engines and storage.

The lower trim of the Gemera will utilize the twin-turbo 3-cylinder TFG with 1400hp and 1850Nm of torque. The upper trim of the Gemera will utilize the brand’s HV8 V8 engine which results in a total system output of 2,300hp and 1,750Nm of torque.

I can’t even fathom what this kind of power would feel like. Vehicles with half as much power already throw you back into your seat. Driving a Gemera is definitely on the bucket list for me now.

Final Thoughts

The Koenigsegg Gemera is truly one-of-a-kind. It is an engineering marvel that shows what brands are becoming capable of. It is highly unlikely that any of us will be able get our hands on one of the 300 units being produced. However, I can dream. Koenigsegg as a brand makes me excited for the future of the entire automotive industry.
