Hyundai IONIQ 5 N

Hyundai IONIQ 5 N Revealed at Goodwood Festival of Speed

The Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6 were announced and released around the same time and were destined to be the “Korean EV twins”. However, the Kia EV6 received a high-performance variant and it’s Hyundai brother did not. You may remember the promotional video of the EV6 GT racing a Lamborghini Huracan from a few years back. Since the twins’ debut, we’ve been all wondering when Hyundai would give the IONIQ 5 it’s proper performance variant. Well, today we’ve seen it.

IONIQ 5 N Simulated Gearshifts

Coined as “e-Shift” programming, the IONIQ 5 N is going to be released as the first EV ever to have a simulated 8-speed dual clutch transmission. For those of you who have never driven an EV, the power delivery is very strong and immediate and linear. For the Ioniq 5 N, the power delivery is going to be interrupted and you will feel an “upshift” and you will have rev matching on downshifts. The upshifting and downshifting will be accompanied by simulated “pops and bangs” found in the ICE Hyundai N cars such as the Elantra N. You can turn off the simulated sounds if you’d like to. The simulated gears do make the Ioniq 5 N slightly slower than the Kia EV6 GT, but for a traditional driving feel, it just might be worth it.

Hyundai IONIQ 5 N Drive Modes

N-Race Mode

N-Race Mode allows you to utilize ALL of the IONIQ 5 N’s power to accelerate as fast as physically possible.

Endurance Mode

Endurance mode is designed to maximize the IONIQ 5 N’s long-term performance on a track. It manages the cooling, power delivery, brake regeneration, and more to maximize the performance.

N Drift Mode

Apparently, this mode will simulate the clutch kick feel found in traditional RWD internal combustion cars.

Hyundai IONIQ 5 N Interior

The interior of the Ioniq 5 N will blend the fun and aggressive styling found in other Hyundai N products, with the futuristic simplicity found in the regular Hyundai Ioniq 5. You will however, have a full length center console with knee pads for bracing during track focused driving.
